בְּאֶרֶץ אַהֲבָתִי הָאֶבְיוֹנָה

אֲפִלּוּ הַיָּרֵחַ בַּשָּׁמַיִם

עוֹמֵד כְּעָנִי בַּפֶּתַח

כָּפוּף וְרָהוּי וְחִוֵּר.


וְעָבִים קְרוּעוֹת וּבְלוּיוֹת

בָּאוֹת מִכְּנַף הַשָּׁמַיִם,

חוֹפְזוֹת חֲסוּדוֹת וּצְנוּעוֹת

לְכַסּוֹת חֶרְפָּתוֹ הַדַּלָּה.

בַּבֹּקֶר עוֹלָה הַחַמָּה

צְהֻבָּה כְּעֵין הַשַּׁלֶּכֶת

וּבְרֹאשׁ הַסִּמְטָה מֻטָּל

תַּרְנְגֹּל־הַזָּהָב שָׁחוּט.

In my beloved country the barren

Even the moon in the sky

Stands as a beggar at the entrance

Hunched over and wary and pale.


And torn and weathered clouds

Arrive from the wing of the sky,

Springing demure and modest

To coat its impecunious shame.


In the morning the halo rises

Yellow as the eye of a wood

And prostrate at the neck of the alley

the rooster of gold, destroyed.
